Valley Village Has A Number of Unique Features
Next step in our list of articles on the long history and culture of Los Angeles is Valley Village, located in the Southeastern part of the city. It is in the San Fernando Valley and is one of the most interesting parts of the city.
A Changing Part of the City
This area was originally part of North Hollywood but was separated out in 1990. The area is largely made up of upscale residences, including some rented units. Many are represented in some major challenges for the future of the city. This area is about 2/3 white and about 20% Latino. The household income for the area is about average, about 55,000.
Also, there is a total population of about 24000 people. This is all within about two square miles. This makes the average per square mile population approximately 12,000. However, there are many available schools including North Hollywood Senior High School.
There are also some parks, including the Valley Village Park. There is also the home which Marilyn Monroe lived in between 1944 and 1945 when she was still Norma Jean.
All of these combined create a unique part of the town. There are even other aspects of this part of Los Angeles that are a bit different than the wider City. This includes a recommendation of the Los Angeles City Planning Commission that there should be a three-story limit to the height of any buildings. Also, many residents do not want more massive apartment complexes which also creates a very different picture of the future of the community.
