Check Out A Growing Part of Los Angeles – Reseda, California
Like Porter Ranch, Reseda has a storied history, dating all the way back to its founding in 1912. Like much of the greater Los Angeles area it grew in large waves after the big population shifts following the First and Second World Wars. It continues to grow and is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from downtown LA.
It is also home to several movie and TV productions. Below we are going to take a look at some of the history of the community and more about the different parts of the greater LA area.
Reseda is Central to LA in Many Different Ways?
Reseda was originally founded as the city of Marian, after the daughter of the founder of the Los Angeles Times. The current name comes from the plant mignonette (Reseda odorata) that grows in the area. In addition, it was a center of the 1994 Northridge earthquake, which measured 6.7.
Its center was just west of Reseda Boulevard. Overall, there are about 75,000 people in the community. It is very diverse, which almost even numbers of whites and Latinos, as well as many Asians and blacks. It is home to fifteen public and five public schools. Some films were set here or filmed.
These included A Kid in King Arthur’s Court and Terminator 2. Some songs, including some by Frank Zappa and Tom Petter, mention the neighborhood. Both My Name is Earl and 10 Items or Less were filmed in the community. Reseda is also discussed directly in the X Files.
