LA Freeway Named for a Governor and Favorite Son?

Ronald Reagan is one of the most transformative figures in California and US history. Reagan is a favorite son of California. He grew up in the state before becoming an actor. He served two terms as an active Governor before his election as President in 1980.
The President played a significant role in the recovery of the American economy and the end of the Cold War. It makes sense that a part of principal thoroughfare would be named after him.
President Reagan reshaped much of the United States and the world. Much of the biggest impact felt right in his home state of California. He was Governor during many of the most difficult parts of the state’s history and pulled it through to the modern age.
LA’s Well Traveled and Famous Freeway, to Boot
The part in question is a portion of California State Route 118. The section included was from Moorpark and Lake View Terrace. Originally named the Simi Valley-San Fernando Valley Freeway, it was renamed after the 40th President in 1994, five years after he left office. Also, it is also near the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The library is one of the major centers of study about Reagan’s time in office and legacy.
This major part of the freeway represents just a portion of the overall part of Route 118. Route 118 extends almost fifty miles in the greater Los Angeles Area. However, right at heart is the soul of the Gipper.
