Pierce College in Los Angeles is a major community college in the LA area. It serves more than 23,000 students. It was founded in 1947 and is within the northern Chalk Hills of Woodland Hills. Originally, the focus of the college was agriculture and animal husbandry.
Over time, the focus of the college shifted but still has a major focus on ag. In fact, its mascot is the Brahma Bull and even has a 225-acre farm for training.
The college has courses in more than 100 subjects and has agreements with various colleges with most universities in the state. Furthermore, students can transfer into the UC and CSU systems. There are a total of 44 AA degrees and 78 certificates available on the campus. The overall campus makes up 426 acres even though it is in the LA area.
It is also home to the 5,500 seat John Shepard Stadium, the former home of the San Fernando Valley Quakes and Los Angeles Express. Pierce also fields 11 athletic teams that compete in the Western State Conference. It is also home to a significant weather station– one of the first in the nation and the region.
