The Museum and Fun Town – LA’s Mid Wilshire
Next up on our list of articles about the long history of Los Angeles is the neighborhood of Mid-Wilshire. This neighborhood it is in the central part of Los Angeles and is well-known for several major museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Petersen Automotive Museum. It is also home to the Miracle Mile shopping district and Leimert Park.
A Number of Different Cultural Aspects to Choose From
This neighborhood largely gets its name due to its abutment of Wilshire Boulevard. Within the neighborhood, itself are several smaller neighborhoods, including Little Ethiopia, the Miracle Mile, Park LaBrea, Park Mile, Wilshire Vista, and Oxford Square.
Mid-Wilshire is a unique neighborhood. It is just under 3 square miles, which makes it relatively small. However, it also has about 42000 people. This makes a population density of about 15000 people per square mile which is one of the highest in bold Los Angeles County and the city itself. The area is very diverse, made up of about one-third of white, about 20% of blacks. And 20% of Latinos and Asians. The area is about average median income.
There are many different attractions and places to visit within this area; these include some cultural landmarks. This list includes the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, LaBrea Tar Pits, end the Harold a Henry Park. There is also the principal shopping center at the Miracle Mile. At the Los Angeles High School Memorial Park there is a Memorial Library dedicated to La High graduates that took part in the First World War.
